Your Labor Day Made Easy With Glory Foods

July 18, 2012

With Labor Day right around the corner, it may be time to start preparing for the last great cookout of the summer.  Being the last cookout of the summer, you’re going to want to make it special.  So, while the guys are outside grilling up some hamburgers and hotdogs, you can be preparing delicious, nutritious side dishes that are good for your family and taste great too.  Glory Foods has dozens of recipes for perfect side dishes, including southern style baked beans and sweet potato corn muffins.

Preparing baked beans as a side dish is a simple way to add some depth to the last great summer cookout.  To start, you’ll need one can of Glory Foods Lima Beans and one can of Glory Foods Pinto Beans.  Dump both cans of beans into a large mixing bowl and add ½ cup of Brown Sugar and 1/8 tsp. of Black Pepper.  Mix everything together until the consistency is ideal and pour the mixture into a 1 ½ quart casserole dish.  Place the dish in the oven set at 350 degrees and bake uncovered for about 1 ½ hours or until the beans are thickened.  After that, its as simple as removing the dish from the oven and placing it on the table for the whole family to enjoy.  If you have picky eaters, this dish won’t be a problem either because you can substitute any of the variety of Glory Foods beans into the recipe.

For another great side dish to your family’s final summer cookout, try a new twist on a classic: sweet potato corn muffins.  To start, you will need one 29oz. can of Glory Foods Sweet Potatoes along with 2 Glory Foods corn muffin mixes.  You’ll also need: 3/4 cup of Milk, 2 large eggs, 3 Tbsp. Sugar, 1 Tbsp. Vanilla extract, 1 tsp. Cinnamon, 1 tsp. Nutmeg, and paper muffin liners.  Begin by preheating the oven to 350 degrees.  Next, put the Sweet Potatoes in a mixing bowl and mash well, adding sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
In another mixing bowl, add eggs and vanilla and mix thoroughly.  Add the two boxes of Corn Muffin Mix and milk, and stir until smooth.  Next, combine the sweet potato mixture and the corn muffin mixture and stir until this is smooth. Line a muffin pan with paper muffin cups and fill each 2/3 full with the completed mix.  Finally, place the muffins in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes.  When the muffins are ready, let them cool for about 5 minutes, and then let your family dig in to a delicious side to your final summer cookout.  A general rule to follow is if your family is using a charcoal grill, put the muffins in the oven about 5 minutes before the burgers are put on the grill.  This will ensure that they’re done at about the same time.

So this summer, why not ad a twist to Labor Day?  With Glory Foods, you can take a boring summer cookout and make it original, nutritious, and of course delicious as well.  With great recipes for sides and all types of dishes online, Glory Foods knows how to put a great twist on old classics.  From Collard Greens to corn to even sweet potatoes, Glory Foods does pre-cooked vegetables the right way, the only way, the way that grandma used to do it.
