National Nutrition Month: The Good in Glory Foods

March 12, 2013

This year’s theme for National Nutrition Month, which is observed every March, is “Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day.”  The theme, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ website,, encourages healthy-eating habits and acknowledges that our favored foods, lifestyle, cultural customs and health concerns impact what we eat.

The campaign’s core message, however, can be summed up in a two-word sentence – Eat right.

A balance meal starts with fruits and vegetables, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  Both are low in fat and calories and are filled with a variety of nutrients the body needs. To ensure you are getting the recommended serving of fruits and vegetables with each meal, half of your plate should be fruits and vegetables. The majority of American children and numerous adults don’t have enough produce in their diets.

Glory Foods offers an array of vegetables that taste delicious and are excellent for diets of any kind. For example, a half-cup of Glory Foods Sensibly Seasoned™ Mixed Greens has 110 percent of vitamin A, 35 percent of vitamin C, 6 percent calcium and 4 percent iron.

Green leafy vegetables are not only nutrient-rich but they can also drastically reduce type 2 diabetes.

Glory Foods offers 12 selections in leafy green vegetables including Seasoned Southern Style Collard Greens, as well as Sensibly Seasoned mixed greens and turnip greens, both of which are certified by the American Heart Association as heart-healthy foods. All of the Sensibly Seasoned™ canned leafy vegetables are free of fat, have low sodium content and are cholesterol-free foods.

In addition to leafy green vegetables, Glory Foods also offers other disease-fighting vegetables such as a variety of beans (lima bean, pinto beans, black beans, etc.) that help reduce the risk of certain cancers. Glory Foods also has sweet potato products (Sweet Traditions Candied Yams, Sweet Potatoes and Sweet Potato Casserole) that lower the chances of heart disease.

Vegetables from Glory Foods have flavor you won’t believe came from a can. The vegetables, from black-eyed peas to turnip greens, are evidence that nutrition can taste delicious even on low sodium, fat free diets.

Glory Foods not only helps people meet their nutritional needs but it also demonstrates that food that is good for the body is also tasty, too.
