National Nutrition Month: The Good in Glory Foods

This year’s theme for National Nutrition Month, which is observed every March, is “Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day.”  The theme, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ website, www.eatright.org, encourages healthy-eating habits and acknowledges that our favored foods, lifestyle, cultural customs and health concerns impact what we eat.

 

The campaign’s core message, however, can be summed up in a two-word sentence – Eat right.

 

A balance meal starts with fruits and vegetables, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  Both are low in fat and calories and are filled with a variety of nutrients the body needs. To ensure you are getting the recommended serving of fruits and vegetables with each meal, half of your plate should be fruits and vegetables. The majority of American children and numerous adults don’t have enough produce in their diets.
