NASCAR Drives Face-Off Against Hunger at Bank of American 500 on October 13 for Glory Foods, Inc.

October 2, 2012, Columbus, Ohio – The need for speed will be heightened on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. That’s when NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Drivers David Ragan and David Gilliland have a special head-to-head challenge to see if either can cross the finish line first to win $1 million from Glory Foods, Inc. to benefit the child hunger relief efforts of Feeding America.
“As a NASCAR driver, I always want to win,” Ragan said. “And this race presents an extraordinary opportunity to be of a great help to Feeding America. David Gilliland is my teammate and friend, but I want to be the one responsible for winning $1 million for Feeding America. That’s 8 million meals for children around the country in need of food.”
The Bank of America 500 will be the “Race To Feeding America” campaign’s apex, rounding out a total of five NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events in which Glory Foods sponsored the No. 34 of Ragan and the No. 38 of Gilliland.
“From the beginning, when we officially announced the campaign in July, each driver has been proactive in lending his talents to Glory Foods for the campaign,” said Dan
Charna, vice president of operations for Glory Foods.“ Our collaborative work has already impacted lives.”
To date, Glory Foods has donated more than 54,600 pounds of canned goods to member food banks in Charlotte; Gray, Tenn.; Abingdon, Va.; and Salem, Va.; all of which serve race cities of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Glory Foods will exceed its goal of more than 500,000 meals to Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic-hunger relief charity, to aid the nonprofit’s efforts to feed children in need.
