Glory Foods, Inc. Launches “Race To Feeding America” Campaign

Aug. 1, 2012, Columbus, Ohio – Representatives of Glory Foods, Inc., have announced the company’s sponsorship of a series of NASCAR races in which food and funds will be donated through its “Race To Feeding America” campaign to Feeding America – the nation’s premier domestic hunger-relief charity – to support child hunger efforts.

An initial donation of 43,000 pounds of canned goods from Glory Foods was made to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, a Feeding America food bank in Charlotte, N.C.

“We believe our ‘Race To Feeding America’ campaign will help Feeding America get food to children in need across the country,” said Dan Charna, vice president of operations for Glory Foods. “Nearly 16 million children in the United States don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Glory Foods wants to do what it can to reduce those numbers and help ensure no child goes to bed hungry.”

Charna said Glory Foods is sponsoring Front Row Motorsports entries in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events in Atlanta, Bristol, Tenn., and Charlotte and will donate to Feeding America enough money and canned food products to exceed its campaign goal of 500,000 meals to children nationwide.

“We want NASCAR fans to join us in helping Feeding America get food to children who are in need so they can get the nourishment required to grow and flourish,” Charna said. “They can go to the campaign’s website, www.racetofeedingamerica.org, to make a donation to Feeding America. Or, they may support the cause by donating to local Feeding America food banks in the race cities.”

Glory Foods’ sponsorship program includes primary sponsorship of two Front Row Motorsports entries: the No. 34 of David Ragan and the No. 38 of David Gilliland. The sponsorship includes a special head-to-head challenge for the Oct. 13 Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“My teammate, David Gilliland, and I want to heighten awareness about the issue of child hunger right here in our own country,” Ragan said. “In doing so, I hope we all become better stewards to children, one meal at a time.”

If either driver wins in Charlotte, Glory Foods will donate $1 million to Feeding America. As a thank you to fans for their coming support, they will be able to enter a sweepstakes at www.racetofeedingamerica.org to win two hot passes to the 2013 Coca-Cola 600 in May at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

“Although the racing leg of our campaign will end Oct. 13 in Charlotte, our campaign will continue until March 31, 2013,” Charna said. “All of us at Glory Foods, Front Row Motorsports and Feeding America want as many fans as possible to join this passionate collaborative effort to provide food to children through Feeding America. Our dedication, in mass, has enormous potential.”

Feeding America’s food banks secure and distribute 3 billion pounds of donated food and groceries each year through a network comprised of approximately 61,000 food assistance agencies, including those connected with after-school programs, food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters.

“We are simply ecstatic about how Glory Foods has formed these partnerships to assist us in taking care of our children through this tremendous campaign,” said Kay Carter, executive director of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “We know their great works will enhance continuous efforts to provide children with a basic human necessity – food.”
